Anchors, Raft-Ups and Overnights!

Hammock time!
We headed out yesterday into Casco Bay in the later part of the afternoon after getting some errands done and prepping the boat. Our friend RJ jumped aboard and we headed out past Fort Gorgeous and continued around Cow Ledge. Neto Nomad responded nicely to the consistent winds as she carried us along on our adventure.

Fellow Cape Dory owner and friend (Captain) Tyler and Chief met us out on the water and we eventually headed to a little island in Casco Bay. We laid out the anchor (for the first time mind you - woohoo!!) and Tyler rafted up next to us (2 boats, 1 anchor).

Our other friend, Kyle, later came out to play and after doing some circles around us in s/v Nomadic he settled on a mooring near by.

After dinner we took the dinghy to the island. Nick told us to look over the edge as he swirled his hand in the water. Phosphorescence danced around his finger tips as if the ocean was putting on a light show just for us with sparklers. We bon-fired, ate more, and drank some sangria and beers as Chief dashed through the woods happy to stretch out his legs. Eventually we motored back to our boats guided by the stars and the basking moonlight, our stomachs full and our minds content. I fell asleep to Kyle and Tyler playing the guitar and banjo on the boat over and gazing up at the stars through the open hatch above our heads.

morning swim
We awoke this morning, from the wake of a passing working boat, to our boat facing in a new direction due to the incoming tide and shift in wind direction. After getting my bearings straight (I thought we had drifted!) I glanced around. The water was glass and the sun was warm. A perfect morning. It was early still so there weren't any boats out except for the lobster men and us. We dove into the water and swam before heading out for another sail around the surrounding islands. We tacked through Hussey Sound and dipped into the open ocean before heading back to the Marina past the Portland Head Light.
