Climbing Upper Goose

After a long Summer of limited climbing we decided to take up the quest to follow rummors of a climable boulder on a near by island. After convincing a friend to come along we headed up the bay to Upper Goose. The above is the first sighting of the island cluster.

After negotiating the entrance to the anchorage we snagged a mooring and headed to shore to explore.
With our climbing gear in hand we headed up to check out the boulder. For those who don't know, Southern Maine is full of stone but sadly most of it is not of a good enough quality to climb on so we were excited to see if this glacial erratic was any good.

We spent the next couple of hours climbing various boulder problems on this boulder overlooking the bay. It was the first sail to climbing experiance any of us had and that added an extra element of fun. Exploring the coast for potential climbing spots and surf areas was one of the main reasons a sailboat was enticing to us. We hope this is just the first of many fun areas we get to go to as we continue to explore.

On the sail home we took advantage of some good winds pushing us along and the warm water. Towing behind was a great way to cool off and find out how fast a few knots of speed really feels.
