The Undertaking of Anti-Fouling Paint
Ahh, finally! The rain cleared out and has left us with a few beautiful Maine days that I've grown to cherish. This weather window also means another thing on Neto Nomad.....it's time to get our Anti-fouling game faces on!
To those of you not familiar with this particular boat paint, it is applied on the lower half of the hull (bottom of the boat) that is submerged when in the water. The idea is to keep barnacles and other sea life from growing on the bottom of your boat which would inhibit smooth sailing.
Anti-fouling paint is not something you want to spend much time in or around when using or sanding it. Nick and I used full precautions and covered up -- gloves, suit, glasses and masks were in order for this event.
Luckily we didn't have to sand the present bottom coat to the fiberglass, the old paint looked in good enough order so we followed the recommendations of the Pettit paints and did a rough sand with 80 grit sand paper. Nick grabbed the hand sander and went to work prepping the boat. Next she received an intimate sponge bath then we began painting. This particular paint take 3 hours to dry (it's about mid 70's today) -- and with that our lovely boat got a face lift and went from blue to green!
Up next -> Anti-skid deck paint application!
