Surf and Turf

Due to our busy schedules, Nick and I celebrated Valentine's Day the weekend after. Due to our love of the sea and land, we made surf and turf for what would become one of my all time favorite meals. That's right, I said it.

On the menu:
The Surf - 2 - 1 1/4 lb. Maine lobsters
The Turf - 1 - 1 3/4 in. organic ribeye steak
The Earth - Brussel sprouts (enough for 2)
1 loaf - fresh Italian bread
2 bottles of Malbec (we had 90+ Cellars)

We shopped local for all ingredients which makes all the difference in quality. The beautifully marbled steak was left out for a few hours before cooking to dry it out and bring it to room temperature. Then Nick salt and peppered it and threw it on the grill. The brussel sprouts were tossed with olive oil, paprika, salt and pepper, then scooped onto a cookie sheet and put in the oven for 45 minutes. They were shaken occasionally for even cooking. Finally the lobsters, they were boiled in water, thyme, garlic, lemon zest and a bay leaf until done. We melted some butter for the lobster, poured some olive oil and added salt and pepper for the warm bread, and popped the (2nd) bottle of Malbec. We thanked our food and dug in.

Oh what a glorious meal it was.

The steak came out with a crisp, seared exterior and a juicy, tender interior and just melted in your mouth. The lobster was succulent and so delicious it didn't even need the butter; and the brussel sprouts were perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

To round off a perfect Valentine's Day meal were chocolate cookies with melted thin mints on top that I had made earlier in the day.
